Announcement - NPQ Scholarships for leaders working in schools in priority areas

The DfE has recently confirmed that £10 million of the Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund (TLIF) has been set aside to support teachers and leaders in challenging areas to access the reformed National Professional Qualifications (NPQs).

This funding will cover the full participant costs of the course for teachers working in an Opportunity Area or a priority area (defined by the DfE as a category 5 or 6 ‘Achieving Excellence’ area).

These areas include Ashford, Crawley, Gravesham, Hastings, Lewes, Medway, Thanet

To be eligible for a scholarship, the participant must be:

Working in a school in one of the above areas

Not already hold the NPQ for which they are applying

Not previously have dropped out before completing the NPQ for which they are applying.

The funding is expected to be available in each of the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. We understand that where a participant has already begun a course before this funding is available, provided that they meet the criteria, they will be able to have their course costs refunded.

The DfE will shortly be running a procurement process open only to accredited providers of the NPQs. We expect this process to be complete by the end of December and, subject to LLSE’s success in this process, we further expect that any eligible participant previously enrolled on an NPQ (since September 2017) will have their fees refunded.
