At LLSE we have a strong belief in the power of high-quality coaching to enable teachers
and leaders throughout their careers.
Everyone on an LLSE NPQ programme benefits from the support of an in-school coach, usually a line manager or senior colleague. Regular reviews throughout the programme support you to reflect on and apply your learning in the context of your role and setting.
You are asked to identify your in-school coach as part of your NPQ application. We advise that you discuss this with your line manager, Headteacher or Chair of Governors / Trustees as appropriate. The in-school coach is usually your line manager or a senior colleague. They do not need any prior experience of coaching or formal coaching accreditation. Guidance is provided to the in-school coaches.
As part of our strategy to promote engagement in the NPQs among teachers and leaders from small schools and settings, we are developing a pool of people willing to support in cases where the school or setting does not have capacity to provide an in-school coach. Please contact enquiries@llse.org.uk if you would like to discuss the options.
Our participants on the NPQH, NPQEL and Early Headship Coaching Offer (EHCO) have access to fully funded 1-1 Executive Coaching.
Executive coaching helps you to consolidate and extend your learning by supporting the practice and evaluation of developing leadership behaviours, thinking and skills, having a positive impact on the outcomes for pupils.
The executive coach’s role is to provide support and challenge as the participant applies their practice to their own context. The probing questions help the participant to be reflexively reflective (supported by evidence) of this learning in their context.
The LLSE coaching agreement helps to formalise the creation of a trusting and purposeful relationship.
LLSE’s NPQ Executive Coaches support the reflexive reflection of stage five of the Boyatzis self-directed learning model. Each participant has the same executive coach throughout their programme.

You can either choose your Executive Coach from LLSE’s CMS Directory or you can select a coach from your existing networks.
All Executive Coaches need to complete an application with LLSE for us to confirm their relevant experience and expertise. You do not need to identify your Executive Coach at the point of applying for your NPQ.
NPQH - 2 x 1.5-hour sessions during the 18-month course (2 x 1.5-hour sessions are with an internal coach)
NPQEL - 4 x 1.5-hour sessions during the 18-month course
EHCO - 3 x 90 minute sessions during the 12-month (flexible length) programme
LLSE has chosen to include Executive Coaching in our NPQH, NPQEL and EHCO programmes. The funding hours detailed above are fully funded from the programme fee. Executive Coaches are paid directly by LLSE.
