Identifying or commissioning a coach

Executive Coaching is a professional development process designed to help individuals in leadership roles enhance their performance, develop critical skills, and achieve personal and organisational goals. Through one-on-one or group sessions, an executive coach works with the client/s to identify strengths and areas for growth, refine leadership strategies, improve decision-making, and enhance interpersonal and communication skills. The coaching relationship is tailored to the individual’s specific needs, offering a supportive and confidential environment for exploring challenges, setting actionable goals, and creating a clear plan for personal and professional success. It’s an investment in leadership effectiveness, aimed at fostering growth, improving work-life balance, and driving greater impact in the workplace. Unlike training, consultancy or mentoring, the coach is not ‘telling’ the client what to do, or how to do it, they are instead facilitating the client to identify the best solutions for themselves.

What does coaching offer?

Unlike training, coaching is about developing the individual’s capacity to identify knowledge and work on their skills for themselves. A coach will typically help deepen a coachee’s thinking and exploration of issues by asking questions to get to the heart of the matter at hand. The coach works with the coachee on goals which they establish at the beginning of the relationship and provides accountability and support in the coachee achieving those goals. A coach can also offer feedback to the coachee from an external perspective and challenge them to explore their beliefs, mindsets and motivations. As a result, executive coaching often, not only support the achievement of specific goals, but plays a transformational role in the development of new ways of thinking, unblocking limiting beliefs and improving leadership capacity.

When can I start?

We have a range of different coaches with whom you can work. Depending on your needs you can match you with an appropriate coach. Getting started could be as quick as a week, depending on availability. View all profiles for coaches here.

Who will the coaches be?

At LLSE we believe that those involved in coaching school leaders, should themselves be experienced in education and educational leadership. We, therefore, require all coaches to have current or recent experience of working with educational leaders. Most of our coaches are current or recently serving school leaders themselves, so are used to working to support senior leaders. Our coaches also have a variety of qualifications and accreditations in coaching to ensure that they are effective executive coaches.

Who exactly you work with as your coach will also depend on the area you wish to focus on. Our coaches come from a vast array of backgrounds and so cover all phases and school types and have had experiences of working with a huge range of leadership issues. Our aim is to match you with the coach best suited to meet your specific needs. View all their profile here.

How frequently will the sessions be?

For individual coaching, you and your coach will agree that between you. Some people may want a very quick succession of sessions to deal with a specific issue, or to quickly undertake induction to their new role; others may want to work with a coach over a year or longer developing their skills. Once you have bought the package you can arrange this to suit your needs.
